LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Cotton is king in Lubbock, and one of the biggest companies in the cotton seed business is under federal investigation. Media reports, including the Wall Street Journal, say the federal government wants to know if Monsanto might have violated Anti-Trust Laws.
Cotton seed prices are about seven times higher than they were in 1995. Farmers are crying foul, and not just cotton farmers but those who plant corn and soybeans too. Monsanto says the money pays for genetic enhancements.
By the way, Monsanto is building a new $15 million facility in the Lubbock Business Park.
