LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A 59-year-old man dies after a two car accident in east Lubbock. The accident happened just before 2:00 p.m. Monday in the 2500 block of Parkway Drive.
Police say 31-year-old Bashon Blaylock was turning his green Mercury Grand Marquis north on Zenith Avenue from the eastbound lanes of Parkway Drive, but failed to yield to a white GMC pickup truck going westbound.
The pickup hit the passenger-side door of the Mercury, pushing the car into the ditch on the north side of Parkway Drive. The Mercury's passenger, Marvin Blaylock was trapped inside the vehicle. Emergency crews cut the Mercury's roof off to release the Blaylock from the vehicle; he later died at UMC. The driver, Bashon, had minor injuries and refused treatment from EMS.
Police say 32-year-old Christopher Brown was driving the pickup and was not treated for injuries. However, his 28-year-old passenger Courtney Bowie was taken to UMC for serious injuries. Her injuries are not considered life threatening. Bowie was released from the hospital later in the day.
Many neighbors say this particular intersection at Zenith and Parkway is dangerous and something should be done about it. "People will just speed on through with out stopping. There's no arrows for the traffic to turn left," said concerned driver Maurice Williams.
