Seton coach fired after player hit Red Raider below the belt

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - In Tuesday night's Texas Tech basketball game in Newark, New Jersey against Seton Hall, a Seton player punched a Tech player below the belt.

Seton Hall's Herb Pope was ejected Tuesday night in the first five minutes of its NIT game against Texas Tech when Pope punched forward Darko Cohadarevic in the groin.

Cohadarevic returned and scored six points in the first half.

On Wednesday, the Seton Hall basketball coach has been fired.

Patrick Hobbs, who oversees Seton's Athletic Department, says Bobby Gonzalez was let go for reasons other than his coaching record.

Hobbs says "We have expectations as to how our coaches and players will conduct themselves, and they are expected to treat everyone they interact with, whether officials, the press, or our students, with the utmost respect, maturity, and professionalism."

Tech beat Seton Hall 87-69.
