LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Huge savings on a major road project will pave the way for Lubbock to move forward on another. The extension of Slide Road from 4th Street to the North Loop came in $1.7 Million under budget.
That's enough money for the city to buy 15 houses that stand in the way of widening Milwaukee south of 98th street. The city plans to widen Milwaukee into a 7-lane thoroughfare from 98th to 114th. The houses in question are prone to frequent flooding and the city will tear them down after purchasing them.
Also on Thursday, the City Council will approve bids on the Quaker Avenue improvements from 98th to 114th. Bids came in at $4.8 million, which is nearly $3 million less than the amount voters approved in a November bond election.
