Jury selection begins in high profile Levelland drug ring case

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Hundreds of potential jurors were questioned Monday morning in Levelland as part of a high profile drug ring case.

The trial is to remove Hockley County Sheriff David Kinney from office. Last year, a judge put Kinney on temporary suspension after two sheriff's deputies were arrested and indicted for their involvement in a major drug trafficking ring.

Ken Davis was appointed temporary sheriff during Kinney's suspension. Kinney took office in 2005.

Attorneys for both sides are trying to find fair and impartial jurors for this high profile case. Jury selection will continue Tuesday.

NewsChannel 11 is following this trial and will bring you the latest as it becomes available.
