Covenant becomes the region's first accredited Cycle 3 Chest Pain Center

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – A new distinction for Covenant Medical Center, it has been designated the region's first accredited Cycle Three Chest Pain Center.  Patty Freier, R.N., and the Chest Pain Center Coordinator at Covenant says their goal is to reduce the mortality rate from heart attacks and it starts with all of us understanding the symptoms.

"If you're having chest pain, it's usually a more pressure type squeezing pain and if can radiate to your back, it can radiate down your arm, both arms, up into your neck and into your jaw," said Patty Freier,R.N.  "You may have nausea, vomiting, light headedness, you're sweating and a feeling of impending doom and people are still in denial over it."

Patty says for women, symptoms can include discomfort in the abdomen and unexplained fatigue.  The bottom line is if you think you might be having a heart attack, don't waste time just call 911.
