LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock, TX (KCBD) – The hunt continues for a man the Lubbock Police Department says is armed and dangerous. Authorities say this is the man police chased in a stolen blue Mazda. The suspect crashed in an alley and took off on foot, but before he ran the suspect fired one round at officers. Police say he is their main suspect in three armed robberies.

One family is left in the cold, footing the bill for damage caused by the suspect during the chase.

"He decided to take off and it's not right," said Sylvia Lara about the suspect who police are searching for. He smashed into the gas meter that keeps her house warm.

"The car hit it and twisted the meter and just broke it," Lara said, "I'm stuck here with no gas."

Lara rents the house from Deina Arellano.

"I feel bad because I'm the owner and I'm renting to her," Arellano said.

"They have to suffer through it. We have to pay for it. We don't like to see them go through it but we can't do anything about it," said Arellano's daughter Wendy. Both Lara and Arellano are strapped for cash and say footing this bill is just something they cannot do. The insurance deductible is $600.

"I'm not able to cook and we can't take showers," said Lara about the situation she is in. Her 6-year-old granddaughter Bradlyn, who she cares for, bundled up to come inside for the night.

"I don't want to do this to my granddaughter and I don't want her to be cold," Lara said.

Atmos Energy fixed their part of the meter at a cost of about $350, but by law a licesenced plumber must fix the pipes. After the repairs, the city must inspect the job before Atmos restores the gas. A distribution supervisor with Atmos discovered the problem snakes back to the house, the force of the crash totaled the pipe.

"I feel like I'm paying for something someone else did," Lara said. An Atmos supervisor brought an electrical heater Lara and her granddaughter. Arellano and Lara hope to scrape together enough cash to take care of the problem.

The suspect who police are searching for is described as a male around 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and jeans. If you have any information you are urged to call Crime Line at 741-1000.
