Lion Shot in San Antonio Streets

An escaped 250 pound lioness is dead after spreading fear through a San Antonio neighborhood Monday. Bexar County authorities say the animal escaped from a nearby wild animal sanctuary. The Bear Sheriff's Department was called by a resident who spotted the lion walking down the street.

Nearly one dozen deputies and six handlers from the Wild Animal Orphanage responded. The handlers shot the animal with tranquilizer darts which did little to subdue the animal.

The animal was later shot and killed after it charged the group.
