LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Junk food can have the same effect on your brain as cocaine or heroin.
That's according to a new study in rats that shows those fed junk food like bacon, chocolate and cake, quickly developed compulsive eating habits. Just like cocaine addicts, the rats eventually needed more junk food to get the same pleasure from eating and obese rats even continued feeding through shock treatments, while normal weight rats would stop eating when they realized they were about to get zapped.
Researchers at the Scripps Research Institute say they hope to use this information in the development of an anti-obesity vaccine.
