LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – FDA advisors are also looking into the risks of mint-flavored cigarettes, including marketing and consumer perception.
Some have argued that the mint flavoring is luring teens into smoking. Others say menthol cigarettes are being marketed to African Americans. The tobacco industry disagrees on both counts. The FDA says it will take at least until next year to make any decision on mint flavored cigarettes. Meanwhile, menthols account for one-third of the nation's 70 billion dollar cigarette market.
