Perry seeks to repeal bill Jones approved

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A candidate for District 83 wants to repeal a bill approved by his opponent.

Charles Perry wants to repeal House Bill 1403, which gives $33 million in in-state tuition scholarships to illegal immigrants. It's a bill Perry's opponent, longtime Representative Delwin Jones, voted for in 2001.

"We need to keep in mind that those that are paying in the system are the first concerns that we should have as far as those who are not in the system that continue to receive benefits from that system. It's just another pull on limited resources," said Perry.

Perry and Jones will face off in the Republican runoff on April 13th. Early voting starts Monday.
