LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Overall heart disease kills 450,000 women every year and 64% of them have had no previous symptoms. That's according to the American Heart Association, which is teaming up with Covenant Hospital to sponsor the annual Go Red for Women Luncheon. There will be several speakers at the event, including a humorist who will bring laughter into the prescription and Dr. Ray Smith, a family practitioner, who says women can help protect themselves by keeping a score card.
"Everyone who attends the Go Red for Women Luncheon is going to get a score card and it's going to have important information as far as numbers such as their weight, brain, metabolic index, how their weight and height relate, know the numbers about their cholesterol," said Ray Smith, M.D., and in the department of family medicine at Covenant. "The LDL and the HDL, numbers about how much exercise they get throughout the day and they're 15 different numbers that these women need to know. They should keep this score card from year to year and find out how they're progressing from year to year."
The Go Red for Women lunch is set for next Thursday, April 8th, at the Knipling Center. It's $20 and you're asked to please make your reservation by this Friday. Just call (806) 748-2500 to reserve your seat.
