Inmate at Lubbock County Detention facility dies


LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock Sheriff's Office has launched an investigation into the death of an inmate at the County Jail.

The Detention Center medical staff responded with emergency treatment after Abel Garcia Rodriguez was found unconscious in his cell around 5:00 a.m. Friday morning.

EMS transported him to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

A family member of Rodriguez's tells NewsChannel 11 that he suffered from prostate cancer. The LSO Criminal Investigations Division is conducting an investigation and an autopsy will be performed.

Rodriguez was being held on a charge of resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor.
