Lady Chaps Use Five Homers To Sweep Oklahoma Christian

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 3, 2010) – Lubbock Christian University produced five home runs in 11 combined innings of a Saturday doubleheader sweep of Oklahoma Christian University, as Latainna Eltsosie led the No.2 Lady Chaparrals to a 10-2 and 8-0 victory with a pair of home runs Saturday afternoon at PlainsCapital Park.

Eltsosie hit a pair of three-run home runs in the opener and produced six runs-batted-in.  Oklahoma Christian took the opening lead with Amy Urbanovsky hitting a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.  LCU took the lead away from the Lady Eagles in the bottom of the second inning with Jennifer Frazier hitting a double to the right-centerfield fence to score a pair of runs.  OC responded in the third inning with Kayla Jennings hitting a RBI single to tie the score 2-2. Eltsosie connected on her first home run of the game in the bottom half of the third inning with a three-run shot over the left field fence for a 5-2 lead.  It was three of eight unanswered runs for LCU, as the Lady Chaps added a pair of runs in the eighth inning and Eltsosie's home run in the sixth inning ended the game by run rule.

Gutierrez allowed two runs on seven hits to improve to 22-2 on the season.  She had eight strikeouts in six innings pitched.  Caitlin Matthies dropped to 4-3 on in the circle for OC, as she allowed 10 runs on 15 hits in six innings.  Nine different Lady Chaps registered hits in the game, with Priscilla FaGaines, Amanda Myers and Jennifer Frazier each having multi-hit games to join Eltsosie.  DaVee Croy went 3-for-3 for OC in the loss.

In the second game, Guttierez grabbed her 23rd win of the season with a five-inning two-hit complete game shutout.  She received offensive support early in the game, as Clarissa Maldonado singled in Cori Enriquez to open the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, and Myers followed with an RBI double to give LCU a 2-0 lead.  Kim Frazier led off the third inning with a solo home run for her 28th home run of the season.  Kim, who went 2-for-6 with two runs-batted-in on the day, now sits a home run away from matching the NAIA single seasonhome run mark. The 3-0 lead for LCU was extended in the fourth inning off Kayla Van Dieren's two-run home run for a 5-0 lead.  For a second consecutive time, the game ended prematurely due to the run rule, as Parsons hammered a walk-off home run for a three-run shot that ended the game early.  Parsons finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI.  Van Dieren was the only other player in the second game to have a pair of hits.

Leigh Leonard was the pitcher of record for OC, as she surrendered eight runs off 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings for the loss. LCU improves to 36-4 overall with the wins and 17-3 in the SAC.  OC falls to 16-16 overall and 7-8 in the SAC.  LCU remains home Friday, as they will host Oklahoma Baptist University for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at PlainsCapital Park.
