LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – A Tulia man is sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and taking her across state lines to New Mexico. Ronnie Joe Stowers, 58, pleaded guilty back in December.
Law enforcement issued an all points bulletin for Stower's victim, Lynn Simms, when she disappeared in November 2009. Stowers threatened her repeatedly at the point of a gun and drove her to several cities in Eastern New Mexico. She was recovered safely when Stowers let her go and then shot himself.
He survived and has been in custody without the option of posting bond to get out of jail. Stowers was sentenced Thursday.
