LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Teachers at Estacado High School will have to reapply to keep their jobs. It's a major step LISD is taking to turn Estacado around from one of the state's lowest performing schools, meaning it continues to perform in the bottom five percent of the state, and doesn't show signs of growth.
When school districts apply for state funds, they must indicate that they will implement one of these four models:
The Restart Model - would convert a school to a charter school
The School Closure Plan - would close the school and send the students elsewhere in the district.
The Transformation Model would replace the principal and improve the school with comprehensive reform, and professional development.
And The Turnaround Model, which is the plan that Estacado will use - will replace the principal, screen the existing staff, and rehire just half of the teachers.
LISD says all Estacado contract teachers have been given the opportunity to reapply for their jobs at the school or move to another campus within the district.
