It looks more like a top ten list than a Food for Thought report this week. Out of the 52 food establishments on the agenda for city inspectors this time, a whole bunch of them make good.
No low performers show up on the radar this time, but what we do have is a lotta love for a lotta restaurants. We're talkin' ten...yes ten Top Performers. We start with a place that claims to get your taste buds dancing. Well then, let's feel the beat in this Food for Thought.
Just across from the Texas Tech campus, and open about two months, Sazon at 1205 University gets zero critical violations, making them a Food for Thought Top Performer. Owner Karina Holcomb is a Texas Tech graduate who got her degree in restaurant hotel management, and since then she's catered events all over Lubbock. Now her dream has come true with the opening of her lunchtime restaurant, Sazon, a name her husband came up with. "It means flavoring or seasoning, " says Holcomb.
You'll find chefs Javier and Rodney cooking up nachos, tacos, burritos and quesadillas, featuring chicken or beef fajita meat. But the signature item has gotta be those salsas...five regular flavors and one salsa of the month...all made fresh daily. "They actually make your taste buds do the rumba!" says Holcomb.
There's no dancing around what Karina and her staff want to bring to their customers every day. "We demand cleanliness because you the customer demand it as well and that's what want to provide, cleanliness, fun atmosphere and awesome salsas," says Holcomb.
Next on the list, a repeat Top Performer. D&G Catfish Corner at 4701 I-27 reels in a perfect score.
