NEW DEAL, TX (KCBD) - Funeral arrangements have been made for a New Deal High School student that was killed in a one-car rollover early Monday morning.
18-year-old Dominique Powell was killed in a one car rollover, just minutes from his home. It happened near the intersection of FM 1294 and North University at 3:30 a.m. Monday.
DPS troopers say Powell was headed north on University, going very fast, when he ran a stop sign and lost control of his white SUV. Investigators say they are looking into alcohol as a factor of the crash.
Powell was an all around athlete, excelling at track, football, and basketball. His name, still on the score board.
Powell played basketball under Coach Kyle Bean all throughout high school.
"I'll always remember Dominique as being kind of a champion for the underdog, the little kids really liked him, and he always picked at them," said Bean.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Dominique's name to the New Deal Athletic Booster Club.
