LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – The FDA says it's studying an antibacterial ingredient used in body washes and other common household products, now that animal studies have found it may pose a health risk.
The ingredient is called triclosan, which is supposed to prevent bacterial contamination, but some studies show triclosan can alter hormones and even increase resistance to antibiotics. At this point, there's no proof that it's harmful to humans, but studies continue.
