Valero agrees to not sell tobacco products to minors

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A convenience store chain is making efforts to stop minors from purchasing tobacco.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and Valero Convenience Stores have reached a multi-state agreement to end underage tobacco sales. Included in these efforts are a comprehensive employee training program to ensure minors cannot purchase tobacco products, an electronic age verification system, and the placement of notices within the store that read "we ID under 30." Undercover mystery shoppers will also arrive unannounced and attempt to purchase tobacco products.

Similar agreements have been made with other major retailers including Shell, Chevron, Walmart, Walgreens and CVS Pharmacy.
