LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Congressman Randy Neugebauer was in Lubbock Friday, and stopped by NewsChannel 11 to talk about some issues in the news right now.
One that hits close to home is redistricting. Our representation in Washington is based on census numbers. And Neugebauer says there will be some changes, but mostly just in district size.
"What we will see is the configuration of some districts will change and my guess is that some will get larger some smaller geographically, because growth in metropolitan areas," says Neugebauer.
Neugebauer also addressed the retirement announcement of Representative Bart Stupak of Michigan. Stupak was addressing the house floor, when Neugebauer yelled "it's a baby killer" over the newly passed healthcare reform.
"Alot of these moderate democrats have had to take very tough votes because of Nancy Pelosi's bringing a very liberal agenda. We've seen these members rather than take the heat at home, and take the chance of getting defeated in November, decide to retire and certainly Representative Stupak was feeling that pressure from his district back home."
Neugebauer also talked about the retirement of U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. He says he hopes the president will nominate a more moderate justice.
