SLATON, TX (KCBD) - A South Plains' establishment that has held a special place in Slaton for a long time became recognized by the State of Texas Saturday. The official Texas Historical Commission made the Slaton Bakery a historical marker.
Owners say things haven't always been as good for the 87-year-old bakery as they are today. It faced difficulties during the Great Depression and during WWII because of rationing, but today owners say they are happy and humbled.
"The success of it has been from the dedicated employees that we've had, and the dedicated family members that have been with the company, and our faithful customers," Company President Sherrell Wilson said.
