LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – The nation's pediatricians are coming together to make a statement on alcohol.
The American Academy of Pediatrics say alcohol increases the risk for so many negative consequences in young people, saying that pediatricians and parents need to take action. The academy outlines the trouble that can start with early alcohol use and that list includes accidental injuries, drug abuse, unsafe sex and binge drinking.
The academy adds that since teen brains are still developing, alcohol can alter the course of normal brain development. The statement points to parents too, asking their involvement in setting clear rules about the use of alcohol.
