LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Chlamydia is the most frequently reported Sexually Transmitted Disease in the U.S. and Gonorrhea comes in at second.  Both, have one thing in common, treatment is as simple as one dose of medicine, but the price you pay for letting either of these go untreated could be a lifetime of regret.

"The primary concern is the long term consequences to Chlamydia and that's the infertility because if it moves up into their reproductive system it scars their fallopian tubes, which doesn't allow the egg to be fertilized and so it's a long term consequence, not just right then at that moment," said Jamie Parker, R.N., the STD Director at the Lubbock Health Department.

April is STD Awareness Month, so if you have any questions about an STD or its symptoms, send it to 11listens@kcbd.com and we'll get an answer for you in our segment HealthWise at Five on the last Wednesday of this month.
