Tech Baseball Rebounds to Take Game 2 Over OU

LUBBOCK, Texas – Junior right-hander Bobby Doran held No. 11 Oklahoma to just one run on seven hits over seven innings while Nick Popescu drove in three runs to help lead Texas Tech to a 7-3 win over the Sooners and a split of a Big 12 doubleheader this evening at Dan Law Field.

The win vaults Tech back to .500 on the season as they stand at 19-19 overall and at 7-7 in Big 12 play. The loss drops Oklahoma to 26-9 on the year and to 6-6 in league action.

After mustering only one run on four hits in a 12-1 setback to the Sooners in the first game of today's doubleheader, the Red Raiders wasted no time jumping on the board early in game two.  Freshman second baseman Jamodrick McGruder led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run that fell just below the scoreboard in right-center field and that gave the Red Raiders a 1-0 lead, their first of this series.

In the fourth, Tech pushed its lead to 3-0 thanks to a fielding error by OU first baseman Cameron Seitzer and an RBI sacrifice fly from senior center fielder Taylor Ashby.

The Sooners scratched across their first run of the night in the top half of the fifth on a two-out RBI single from Garrett Buechele.  Buechele's single was his third of the game and cut the Tech lead to two runs.

Tech broke the game open in its half of the fifth as the Red Raiders plated four runs to take a 7-1 lead.  Barrett Barnes led off the inning with a solo home run and later Nick Popescu blasted a two-run dinger over the right field wall.

Doran (3-2) gave the Red Raiders a huge boost on the mound after suffering a disappointing loss earlier in the day.  Doran matched his season high of seven strikeouts and allowed just one run over seven frames to pick up his third consecutive victory.

Texas Tech and No. 11 Oklahoma will play the rubber match of this three-game series on Sunday afternoon.  First pitch at Dan Law Field is set for 1 p.m.
