LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – The latest blast against processed food comes Tuesday from the Institute of Medicine, which says the average American consumes more than double the amount of salt they need, something that greatly increases the risk for hypertension and other health problems.
Again, much of the blame goes to hidden salt, indicating a bowl of chicken noodle soup and a sandwich for lunch can push you over the recommended daily limit. So now, the Institute is putting pressure on the FDA to force food manufacturers to lower the amount of sodium in processed foods like soups, pizzas and deli meat.
