IRS investigates Lubbock business

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - IRS Agents suspect a local tax preparation business of filing false tax returns.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no criminal charges had been filed. But a search warrant did say the IRS suspects two or more employees of Z & Z Bookkeeping of several crimes.

The IRS took paperwork, computer files and even a gun from inside the business. The search warrant says Z & Z prepared 58 or more false tax returns on behalf of local residents.

That same search warrant also says an undercover agent represented herself as an average customer claiming that employees of Z & Z encouraged her to falsify information in order to get a bigger tax refund.

KCBD NewsChannel 11 contacted Z & Z.

The company's attorney says "we apologize to our customers for any inconvenience. We are working to obtain the return of any customer documentation from the irs. We plan to work with the irs to resolve any issues."
