SARS Taking Toll in Asia

Worldwide, there are over 3,200 cases of SARS now, 154 people have died, none in the U.S. But this virus has been a disaster for Asia.

Tourism in Hong Kong is down close to 90%. And the few who go there aren't venturing out to shop.

One estimate is that as many as 60,000 hotel and restaurant employees have been laid off. So now, unemployment there could climb to 10%.

Schools in Hong Kong and Singapore are still closed. Hundreds are quarantined in their homes.

Meanwhile, U.S. health officials say scientists have cracked the genetic code linked to the virus. Which means, they'll be able to speed up their efforts into developing a test and treatment for the mystery illness.
