Traffic switch scheduled for Marsha Sharp Freeway project

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Beginning Thursday, April 22nd, the Texas Department of Transportation will shift all traffic on US 82 (4th St) to the existing westbound pavement from Ave L to east of the Park Road 18 Bridge in Mackenzie State Park.

Both eastbound and westbound traffic can expect to remain in a one lane configuration for the next 12 months. The existing signalized intersections at Buddy Holly and Interstate 27 will change temporarily to All Way stops while the temporary traffic signals are completed.

The temporary signals should return to their normal operating state by early next week. Left turn bays will be provided at these locations.

This traffic switch will allow the contractor, Lane Construction, to begin construction of the new Marsha Sharp Freeway roads and bridges.

This work is part of the Phase 4 Marsha Sharp Freeway that will make more than $47 million of improvements, including concrete frontage roads and main lanes, additional storm sewers, enhanced signing and striping and nine new bridge structures along the corridor.

Work will take place weather permitting.
