Lightning struck twice for Tech Softball

LUBBOCK, TX - With the skies around Lubbock flashing, Texas Tech got power and good pitching to sweep the No. 7 Oklahoma State Cowgirls and improve to 33-12, 5-8. The Cowgirls, who were undefeated in Big 12 play heading into the two games, fall to 40-9, 9-2.

Ashly Jacobs (12-5) got the win in a 6-0 game one which featured a booming home run by freshman Mikey Kenney. It was Kenney's 15th blast of the season and ties the Tech all-time record for hits in a season. Karli Merlich came on to pitch a strong four and a third inning and pick up the win, 4-1, in game two to improve to 10-2 on the year. Logan Hall hit her fourth home run of the season to highlight the offense. Her blast, which bounced off the top of the scoreboard, resembled a scene from a movie when lightning flashed behind the ball. (The Natural.)

Tech heads to Kansas for a weekend series with the Jayhawks on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at Noon, and the pair of wins this evening move them into seventh place in the Big 12.
