LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Members of the Lubbock area community gathered at Southcrest Baptist Church Friday for a "Night of Encouragement".
Musician Russ Murphy invited a war veteran that was wounded in Iraq in 2007 to share his story of survival and recovery.
"We'd been called to investigate a possible I.E.D. and on the way en route, I was in the 3rd truck in the convoy and found the I.E.D. the hard way," said wounded war veteran, Shilo Harris.
Harris met Jeanne Brown, the mother of Seagraves student Alex Brown, who died in a car crash while texting and driving.
Murphy wrote a song about Alex and presented a plaque with the lyrics to her mother. He will give Alex's entire graduating class a copy of the song in May.
The Brown family will be in Chicago next Friday on the Oprah Winfrey Show, to tape a show dedicated to safe driving habits.
