LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Lubbock's garbage trucks are all caught up on their routes, says Lubbock Mayor Tom Martin. Rain Wednesday night turned the City of Lubbock landfill, near Abernathy, into a mud pit with trucks getting stuck Thursday in the mud. One had to be rescued by heavy earth moving equipment. Pit stops at the dump for garbage trucks normally take 20 minutes.
But Thursday they were taking four hours. Muddy alleys only added to the problem. City Manager Lee Ann Dumbauld authorized overtime on Saturday to get caught up.
Martin says there may be residents who waited on Thursday & Friday to take out the garbage. So, he says the dumpsters may be more full than usual even though the routes are caught up.
