LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – City Hall has reached a tentative agreement with Charles and Brunhilde Sutherland. Their house is threatened by sinking dirt near 98th and Dover in Southwest Lubbock.
City officials said earlier this month that a sewer line project from the 1990's is to blame. If City Council approves Monday morning then the city will purchase the Southerlands' house and demolish it.
While the exact dollar figure has not yet been released officials have said they would make an offer that covers the value of the house plus moving expenses. Further soil testing and engineering will be done because the sinking soil has damaged a portion of 98th Street as well.
