LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Now that a hit and run case has become deadly, will a Lubbock man face new charges?
Over the weekend KCBD NewsChannel 11 reported that Julia Garcia, 80, passed away Saturday. She was one of four people seriously hurt in the early morning hours of April 18th at 19th Street and Raleigh Avenue.
Zachary Doss, 23, had been arrested and charged with failure to stop and render aid. Police say he left on foot and in so doing he not only abandoned those injured in the other vehicle but also two passengers in his own pickup truck.
Lubbock Police Captain Greg Stevens says an autopsy has to be first, then a decision on charges for Doss can be made. He says possible upgraded charges might be involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct, criminally negligent homicide, or aggravated assault. Stevens also says that unless it was intentional then the charge would not be murder.
At last check, Pricilla Sanchez, 29, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
