LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – The lab at University Medical Center analyzes about 55,000 chemistry procedures requested by area physicians every month. Now a significant upgrade is going to make all that work faster and more efficient. It's called the Cobas 6000 Analyzer, MPA and it's moving UMC and the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center into a new era of technology that ultimately, will benefit the patient because nobody likes to wait.
"We have a busy ER so those folks that come in from the ER, the doctors want to get them in and out and so that's going to help those physicians get those patients in and out," said Eddy Morelock, an assistant lab director at UMC. "Along with the physicians that order those labs in the early AM, they want to get those labs in and out so they can discharge those patients."
Starting this Thursday, there will be tours of this new lab so that doctors and patients can be familiar with this new high tech lab and what it has to offer. For more information, please call (806) 775 -8650.
