LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - This week, students at Texas Tech University are getting a lesson in sustainable living as part of Green Week.
Members of Tech's US Green Building Council handed out snacks served in bio-degradable products. The cups and straws will decompose in a landfill within 90 days.
It is just one of the ways students are learning how to live greener.
All week, organizers have scheduled events to teach students about alternate transportation, conservation, recycling and more.
"Something we emphasize is that sustainability isn't inconvenient. It doesn't need to be inconvenient," says TTU USGBC President Brittany Young.
"Another big issue is that people think it costs a lot of money, and up front it does cost a little bit more, but you get a pay back," says TTU USGBC Vice President Rob Diaz.
Green week ends with Arbor Day celebrations on campus.
