Oil well explosion near Snyder threatens to damage land

SNYDER, TX (KCBD) - An oil rig exploded this week near Snyder, but this is no ordinary explosion. Thousands of gallons of what is called brine is gushing out of the ground every hour.

Brine is a combination of salt water and other chemicals that can be used by oil companies.

No one was hurt in the explosion, but after three days of trying to clean up the mess, it is still a huge mess.

The pond that this is creating is about six feet deep and the concern is that salt water can damage the land.

The problem is that they can't cap the well to stop the brine from spewing from the ground.

NewsChannel 11 will continue to follow this story and will bring you the latest as it becomes available.
