An area family, Oprah Winfrey, and TxDOT join forces

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - An area family, Oprah Winfrey, and TxDOT join forces on Friday to make roadways safer.

The Brown family from Seagraves will be on the Oprah Winfrey show this Friday to promote the first ever national "no phone zone day" to end texting and driving.

The Brown's daughter, Alex, was killed in November in a texting and driving accident. Since then, the Brown's have been working to get the message out about the dangers of distracted driving.

The Texas Department of Transportation is also getting in on the fight.

On Friday, drivers across Texas will see messages on TxDOT signs encouraging people to get rid of distractions while on the road.

They want drivers to give up texting or talking on cell phones while driving.

Remember, our own Pete Christy started the B.U.S.T. program, buckle up and stop texting, after Alex Brown's death.
