LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – As part of STD awareness month, we invited your questions online to be answered by the Lubbock Health Department. It turns out this question from a 17-year-old is one they hear a lot at the Health Department, "If I get tested for an STD, will you tell my parents?"
"The Texas family code protects kids, as long as they are thirteen or above, they are responsible for their sexual health and parents do not have to be notified and do not have to give permission for children to be tested," said Jamie Parker, R.N., with the Lubbock Health Department.
The concern is some STDs, if left undiagnosed and untreated, can lead to paralysis, even death. For more on clinic times at the Lubbock Health Department, the number is (806) 775-2933.
