Census workers to start knocking on doors Saturday

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Census Bureau has completed the first phase of its 2010 Census and will start the door to door process on Saturday.

72 percent of U.S. households successfully mailed back their census forms. Those who didn't will soon have a census worker knocking on their door.

Census takers will have government identification and should only ask questions from the form, which does not include social security numbers or bank account information.

"If someone knocks on your door they'll have a badge identifying them as a census enumerator. They'll have a bag that says US census, 2010 census on it, it'll be a black back. And they wont be asking you any information like your social security number or anything about financial. It'll be the 10 questions 10 minutes," says Tom Mesenbourg with the U.S. Census Bureau.

And if you don't answer the door, they will be back. The goal is to get information from every single person in the country.
