LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – One of the biggest power stations in the Lubbock area is about to get bigger. Xcel is asking permission from state regulators to expand the Jones Generating Station southeast of Lubbock.
Currently it makes 486 megawatts of power. The expansion would add another 168 megawatts. For a better understanding, Jones Generating Station would be able to power more than 300,000 homes, on average, once the expansion is complete. Xcel says it's a $116 million project.
