LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Monday morning, a special trip begins in Lubbock to honor members of Texas law enforcement who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The journey starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office with a special wreath ceremony in honor of Corporal D. Robert Harvey. Harvey died in a crash last year while responding to a call.
Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe and members of the department will accept a wreath in honor of Corporal Harvey from the riders of the "We Remember" Memorial Trek Across Texas.
Eight riders from different departments will travel from Lubbock to Bridgeport. Then, they'll continue on to Dallas, Anahuac, Pasadena, Harris County, Victoria, Corpus Christi, Del Rio, and Burnet.
These are all locations where members of Texas law enforcement were killed in the line of duty in 2009. Riders will finish the trek in Austin on Sunday.
That's a nearly 1,500 mile journey. Riders will carry a flag bearing the names and departments of the fallen officers. That flag will then be flown at the Peace Officers Memorial Wall in Austin.
On Sunday, riders will also take part in a candle light vigil at the Capitol to honor all officers as well as those who've died in 2009.
