Doran Named Co-National Pitcher of the Week

Posted:

LUBBOCK, TX Following his career-high 16-strikeout, 8 1/3 innings performance last Saturday against Missouri, Texas Tech junior Bobby Doran has been named the Co-National Pitcher of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

Doran, a junior from Flower Mound, Texas, was two strikeouts away from matching the Tech single-game record held by Buddy Hampton and Monty Ward. Doran's 8 1/3 innings, however, was instrumental in helping Tech rest its bullpen after an extra-inning loss the night before as the right-hander allowed three earned runs over that period for his fourth win of the season.

Doran is the first Tech player to receive the national pitching award since Miles Morgan did so following his 15-strikeout performance against Texas on March 18, 2006, which was also the previous individual high for strikeouts in a single game entering last weekend.

Nicholls State's Clint Dempster shared the award with Doran as the left-hander also struckout 16 batters in a 5-3 victory over Southeastern Louisiana. Dempster recorded his third complete game of the season, allowing only one earned run in the win.

Texas Tech will take an 11-day break from the diamond as the university begins the final exam period on Thursday. Tech returns to action on Friday, May 14 when the Red Raiders open up a three-game series against the Baylor Bears at Dan Law Field.
