Former Slaton Police Officer faces up to a year in jail for stealing

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Former Slaton Police Officer faces up to a year in jail for stealing money.

On Tuesday night, a six person jury convicted Timoteo Velasquez of theft by a public servant. The former Slaton Police Department Sergeant was found guilty of taking $200 instead of logging it as evidence.

Judge Rusty Ladd ordered a pre-sentence investigation, and a punishment hearing will be held in about two weeks.
