Residents in one Lubbock neighborhood are voicing concern about a new communications tower possibly moving into their neck of the woods.
Nextel Communications has applied to install a 150 foot communications tower in the 3200 block of 60th street, adjacent to Leftwich park. The planning and zoning commission approved the tower request in a split vote, but now it's up to the City Council.
"I'm just not in favor of having a 150 foot tower in our neighborhood, there's places for that certainly in commercial areas or industrial areas, but I just don't think a communications tower is something you want in a neighborhood," said City Councilman Gary Boren.
Councilman Boren says the city has received several phone calls and e-mails from residents against the tower, but the city will vote on the item at Thursday's meeting.
