Construction for the Lubbock Heart Hospital is underway. But, the opposition against the hospital continues.
"Lubbock or similar communities like San Angelo, small to mid size medical markets can't support free standing boutique hospitals. I feel very strongly that health care in general will suffer in our community because of that," said Senator Robert Duncan.
Duncan says there is not enough infrastructure to support a speciality hospital in Lubbock. He tried to introduce legislation that would prevent the creation of special service hospitals until there is a proven need for them.
On Tuesday, Senator Duncan dismissed the idea because there is a division of support about the issue. Instead, he will work to evaluate the needs and resources of the area to develop a plan for advancing Lubbock's medical community.
