LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – This reminder in light of the nation's growing obesity epidemic, the Texas Tech Health Science Center is launching a study to see if martial arts as a form of exercise could help kids lose weight and build self confidence.

Researchers at the TTUHSC are looking for kids between the ages of 6 and 11, who are struggling with a weight problem for candidates in this study.  They're studying the effects of martial arts as exercise for weight control, if positive self esteem can be built and if it can help overweight kids sleep better at night.

If your child qualifies, he or she will be invited to join a four week session which includes 20 free martial arts classes this summer. What a great opportunity for kids coping with a weight problem. To learn more about class times or to see if your child qualifies, please call (806) 743-2815.
