Lubbock Professional Fire Fighters are "fired up" to help MDA

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock Professional Fire Fighters, Local 972 will be conducting its "Fill the Boot" campaign May 13th through the 15th, 2010 to benefit the West Texas Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Fire fighters will be collecting May 13th through the 15th at South Loop and Slide Road, 50th Street and Indiana, 19th Street and University Avenue and at 50th Street and I-27. Motorists may give their dollars and change to help fire fighters in their support of MDA.

Fire Fighters have been supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association for 55 years and are the largest National sponsor for MDA, raising nearly $350 million to date nationwide.

Last year Lubbock Professional Fire Fighters raised a record-breaking $100,000 for West Texas MDA and hope to greatly exceed that total in this year's collections. Texas leads the nation in donations to MDA. The funds raised from events such as Fill-the-Boot help support the West Texas area MDA Children's and Adult Clinics, Summer Camp for "Jerry's Kids," and much needed research to find the causes and cures of 43 neuromuscular diseases, including ALS.

MDA receives no government funding and charges no fees to those served by the association.
