Family loses 45 year old tree to wind

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Monday afternoon a Lubbock family lost a loved one due to strong wind gusts – their 45 year old Mulberry tree.

The Jones family planted two Mulberry trees and watched them grow for decades.  Last spring they lost the first one because of strong wind gusts, and now the wind took their last one.

"I was asleep and my wife heard it. She jumped up and said there went the big tree and I opened the door and sure enough she's lying down," said Bill Jones.  He said they tried to doctor the tree after the first one was taken by the wind, but it didn't do any good.

"I hate to lose the old tree, it's been with us for a long time," he said staring at the fallen tree.
