LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - May 11th is a day most Lubbockites would like to forget, especially the families of the 26 victims of that deadly tornado. But through the immeasurable destruction, came life saving lessons.
In 40 years, we've seen technology, resources, and knowledge grow into earlier warning times. Sadly though, warning from a deadly tornado is still only minutes.
We're sadly reminded of that on days like Monday in Oklahoma. By now, you've heard tornados there took five lives. And I could only imagine the death toll 40 years ago.
So we have come a long way, but Consider This:
The National Weather Service has said the best way to stay warned of tornado danger is through a weather radio or local television. That is why KCBD invests the time, money and resources to provide the most accurate and complete coverage with the fastest warning possible.
Please remember this: no matter what program is on the air, or where the danger is, the safety of everyone within our viewing area comes absolutely first. That is my personal commitment to you.
This week we remember all of those taken from us on May 11th, 1970. And we will never forget.
